Fire records from Milford and surrounding towns cause heavy losses

Across Milford Village in Cuptown Maine a grass fire near the lumber yards burned ten acres of dry vine box boards owned by Parker & Thatcher and others. The fire, fed by gale winds, required three hours to control with crews from Oldtown Sillwater and Bangor, destroying ten cars of lumber and damaging the cemetery monuments. Estimated loss near 100000 with limited insurance for Barker & Thatcher.

Republican Tariff Bill Surplus Estimates Prompt Revenue Cutback

The majority report on the tariff bill projects a current year surplus of 43.7 million after sinking fund payments, and an next year surplus near 43.7 million. With cash on hand around 90 million, the bill’s revenue cuts are expected to total about 71.3 million, aided by reduced imports and uncertain revenue from higher duties on wool, woolen goods, and glassware.
