The Eighth district Democratic convention met at the Meiona to elect two delegates to Chicago. Patrick Maguire of Boston was nominated and elected by acclamation, with Jasper N. Kellar winning the other delegate slot. The convention also named alternates and adopted resolutions praising Grover Cleveland and George Fred Williams.

William M Kenna of 41 Kneeland street was struck by an inward-bound electric car on Tremont street at Eliot street while stepping aside from an outward horse car. He was knocked unconscious with severe bruises to his side and taken to Emergency Hospital then home.
John E. Barry, 29, was jailed at Station 4 for drunkenness at 8.20 pm. Twenty-five minutes later he lay dead on the cell floor, suspected to have fallen after losing balance at the door. An officer had visited shortly before. An autopsy is expected. He leaves a widow and several children.
Judge Forbes of Suffolk County Probate Court dismissed guardianship proceedings for John Brown a West End millionaire after a settlement with his heirs. Brown agreed to place a large amount of his property in trust to safeguard it from dissipation.

In Municipal Court Roxbury before Judge Howard yesterday William Gray of Roslindale pleaded guilty to setting fire to Italian shanties on Beach street land owned by W. B. Whittemore and was fined $2710. Gustave Wise also pleaded guilty. as he is under 17 he was held until Saturday in bonds of $800.
A fire at 3:30 yesterday afternoon burned a load of hay owned by R. H. Lombard in front of 233 Friend Street. Ladder 1 extinguished the blaze, with damage totaling 19.

Mrs Mary Lee age 22 resident of South Carolina committed suicide by leaping from a third story window of a private medical institute at 151 East Thirty Fourth Street. She had been an inmate there for three months.
At 9 15 last night a man, described as insane, was found wandering around City square Charlestown by a Station 15 officer. He was committed to the city jail, and it is believed he escaped from an institution.
