Framingham and Lowell Stock Tangles in Bond Exchange

The Transcript reports the last share of Framingham and Lowell stock was cancelled by the Old Colony railroad yesterday morning. Framingham and Lowell 5 percent bonds run six years to April 11, 1891, with a proposed exchange offer that would swap for a 20 year Old Colony bond at a lower interest. Bondholders face potential loss as guarantees end after April 26, 1885, and foreclosure would yield only par plus interest. Most bonds may be exchanged before expiry amid broader New England railroad consolidation.
