Carroll May Go In Place Of Thayer For Delegates

The Hon James B Carroll of Springfield may be one of the Democratic delegates at large to the national convention, as the Post predicted earlier. Thayer of Worcester was substituted, but caucus results show he failed to carry his own district and is not elected a delegate to the State convention. Springfield and western Massachusetts backed Olney, carrying two congressional districts and the State delegation. Worcester elected 29 of 33 Hearst delegates, leaving Thayer unlikely to be on the at large slate. Carroll had run for Lieutenant Governor on Russell’s ticket and was seen as a Williams target. the other three delegates are Mayor Collins, Colonel William A Gaston, and William L Douglas of Brockton, ensuring regional representation. Worcester delegates pledged to Hearst will vote for Williams, so Thayer’s name probably won’t reach the convention.
