Great Banquet at New York Democratic Club Dinner

The New York Democratic Club celebrated Thomas Jefferson's birthday with a lavish Met Opera House dinner. Thirty-two rose laden tables lined both sides of the room, flowers and ferns piled high, corners filled with cornucopias, and many well dressed attendees enjoyed the grand scene and reception for Richard Croker.

Market reaction after closing bell on State Street

The announcement struck State street after 3 pm yesterday too late to affect the regular market. The curb market, however, was in a frenzy with Standard Oil favorites trading at very high prices, as shown in the following table.

Post bill passes in hot clash with powerful lobby

In a high tension session the Post bill for State supervision moved to a third reading by an 80 to 79 vote. The House debated from morning until adjournment at 4 30 pm drawing the year’s largest crowd. The result hinged on late votes from Carey Driscoll and Fitzgerald and a potential deciding vote from Speaker Bates.
