In New York City a prominent lodge drew attention as speakers highlighted its history and activities. Notable figures from civic and cultural circles addressed the gathering, underscoring ongoing community engagement and regional influence.
Thomas O. Beil and J. M. Levy hosted a subscription dinner at the Democratic Club house in New York on Jefferson birthday. Ex-President Cleveland and Governor Abbett of New Jersey attended as speakers, urging party unity, education of the public, and steadfast adherence to Democratic principles amid ongoing political battles.
A boat with twelve young men attempted a cross from the Missouri side to East St. Louis. It capsized in an eddy about three quarters across. five drownings confirmed. The list of the deceased includes John Bourg John McMahon Adam Krust Jack OConnor Robert Guion all residents of St Louis.

A Delaware and Hudson wreck near Worcester Cobleskill at thirty five miles an hour collapsed a freight engine and box cars. A gravel train had a car with five Italians and as flames spread two were killed instantly three injured. Rescuers could not reach the trapped workers as they burned slowly.
