Frightful murder follows rivalry over a young woman
In New York on April 13 a duel of jealousy ends in a fatal shooting. Thomas Corbett, enraged by rival James Leddy winning the lady’s favor, shoots Leddy at his residence, then bludgeons him with a pistol butt. Leddy dies after attempts to help him fail. Corbett flees, with bloody clothing found in his room. In a separate matter, Bergh vs Connolly over Mary Ellen’s alleged abuse proceeds with indictments against Mrs Connolly for ill treatment and assaults as Grand Jury returns. The Brooklyn Gas Company uncovers gas theft involving false connections and a tunnel under a block.
