Senate Expected To Carry Voluntary Training Bill To Conference

Senate action poised to move the voluntary training proposal to conference with House managers. Amendments would restrict volunteer enlistments to 18 to 21 year olds, narrowing prior limits. The vote split showed 25 Republicans and 12 Democrats opposing the training provisions, with several Republicans crossing to defeat the training sections. House actions include the regular army appropriation bill at 37.25 million dollars, framed around strict spending to cover next year’s military needs with an army of 175000 enlisted and 16000 officers.
