A log break at the Penobscot river event left fewer than 100 thousand logs, mainly cedar, to be recovered. Separately, a bottle of sulfuric acid burst at Farmington normal school Friday afternoon injuring faculty member Mr Warner and student Pottle. both were severely burned but not fatally.
Henry Dittle of Exeter improves after being accidentally shot by a student named Floyd. Reports note threats to boycott a businessman for voting to enforce the prohibitory law in Concord by a board of aldermen member. Charles Lord of Hopkinton, a 71 year old farmer and mechanic, attempted suicide Friday by shooting and cutting his throat, severing his wind-pipe. prognosis doubtful as health and despondency are given as causes. he leaves a family.
Eleven year old Clara Briggs daughter of Rodolphus Briggs of Briggs Brothers butter tub makers Weston was caught by a mill shaft in her father's Weston mill. Thrown around by an upright shafting from the turbine water wheel she was horribly mutilated and died within an hour.
All Saints Episcopal church of Worcester extends an invitation to Rev Alexander H Vinton of Philadelphia to become its pastor. A burglary at Standish block Abington robbed Cleverly's store and the post office with about 20 dollars taken. A separate incident at Holyoke mill injured a 15 year old boy. In Fall River a jury awarded 1000 dollars against Sanford Manchester in a wrongful death suit stemming from an accident at the Flint mills.
A man identified as Elisha Winans of Sharon, nearly 60, a former New Haven fire department member, was found dead in Mill River on Friday. A second body, about 40, light-haired, was recovered from New Haven harbor with no identification to determine suicide or ship loss, awaiting morgue identification. Mrs Asbury wife of a farmer near Shelbyville saturated her clothing with coal oil after a Monday quarrel. Neighbors aided, but she set herself ablaze and fled the house. The flames burned until she died yesterday leaving a fatal self immolation.
