Boston Strike Sparks Tensions in Printing Trade
The Boston Typographical Union 13 and Allied Printing Trades Council allege an inside group within the Boston Typothetae orchestrated a strike to crush smaller printers. They say plans originated in Cincinnati on March 31 and included strike-breakers from Edward Vance of Akron, with operations across New York Philadelphia Chicago and Montreal. The dispute centers on a 44 hour week and wage scales, while many shops outside Boston continue work and ship duties abroad.

Boston Typothetae Denies Plot To Control Industry
Robert Seaver, chairman of the publicity committee, flatly denies that the Boston Typothetae seeks to intimidate small printers or coerce them into joining. He notes about 500 Boston firms with 400 tiny shops and says the Typothetae represents more than eight percent of local printing material, provides help, and invites attendance at meetings.
