More than 3000 people crowded Symphony Hall for Boston’s first major Liberty Loan rally. Attendees purchased $5 coupons valid toward buying a third Liberty Bond, with Major Laughlan MacLean Watt of the Black Watch praising sacrifice in support of the national fundraising effort.
Reported German infantry waves push toward Armentieres threatening the town as British and American troops consolidate positions. Allied forces hold a line further south and in the British sector, with renewed pressure testing trenches and supply routes.
London April 10 The House of Commons passed the second reading of the government manpower bill by 323 to 100 after a debate. John Dillon leader of the Irish Nationalists bitterly opposed conscription for Ireland and said he would not oppose the bill further if county option for Ireland were conceded.
Berlin reports capturing 6600 prisoners and 100 guns in the current assault as German forces push along the Arras front. Allied countermeasures include a British defense stiffening near Armentieres and Ypres with American troops arriving on the British front amid enthusiastic reception.
The speaker James M. Beck of New York argued against haggling over trillions in lending. He asked why the government would seek a loan when Germany has already raised about $30,000,000,000, equating it to a vast national debt scale.
Amsterdam reports a semi official Berlin despatch stating the first German capture of an American aviator. The engineer by training is said to have been shot down on the western front on Sunday and had served with French forces since last September.
London April 10. The lowest record since Germany began ruthless submarine warfare was tied last week when only six vessels were sunk. Four were over 1600 tons and two under that figure.
The week of Nov 11 saw the previous low record tied as arrivals and sailings totaled the largest since December. Vessel count stayed the same as the prior week, though tonnage likely dipped since only one ship exceeded 1600 tons.

Dr Frederick W. Hardwick secretary and acting chairman of the Ward 0 Selective Draft Board died at home after a short illness at 158 Ashmont street Dorchester He was 40 born in Quincy a Taft Medical School graduate Survived by wife Mabel Hughes Hardwick and two children.
