A series of blasts at the Eddystone Ammunition Corp plant near Chester Pennsylvania killed 112 people, injured 121, and left many charred and unidentifiable. Most victims were women and girls. a total of 300 workers were in the building storing about 30 000 shells. The death toll was expected to rise.
