A new bass tuba player appeared, his instrument appearing oversized in his hands. The audience enjoyed the near full orchestra after the earlier tumult.

Mozart and Ravel Sparkle in Mixed Concert Program
The programme opened with Mozart Symphonie Concertante for violin and viola, soloists Theodorowitz and Denayer delivering fluent, well crafted passages. Ravel’s Mother Goose pieces, Spanish Rhapsody and other works impressed with variety and refined orchestration while Borodin’s Polovtsian dances provided fiery contrast. Monteux led with sympathy, yielding a bewitching, masterful concert despite some critic notes on Mozarts parts.
