A Sailor’s Reverent Tribute to a Veteran Captain

Original verse lauds a veteran captain, praising his steadfast voyage through time. The speaker extols the “white-worn wreath of honorable years” and the shiplike heart that remains youthful, honoring Srurets and his gallant crew for bold navigation. The tribute compares him to a sturdy old bark weathering waves and hoary rime.

Mordaunt Hall and other contemporary readings

Mordaunt Hall is reviewed as a tedious yet intermittently engaging novel with Mrs Marsh criticized as tiresome in Angela and unbearable in Mordaunt Hall. The piece notes strong introductory love and shame segments, praises the Boston Massacre illustration in Franklin Illustrated, and comments on The Ladies' Work Table Book and The Art Union of Philadelphia. It also covers California travel recollections, railroad critiques, and shipping data from Boston to New Orleans.
