An Albany tie vote of 25 to 25 blocks two Agnew Hart bills ending the governor Hughes proposed abolition of public gambling protection at race tracks. Lieutenant Governor Chanler breaks the tie with a parliamentary vote to keep the bills alive for possible later action.
The governor voiced disappointment at the day’s result and warned the contest is far from over. He said the people’s will must be obeyed and hinted at possible extra sessions after adjournment to press the issue. No details were released from the executive chamber.
In New York on April 8 Prince Helie de Sagan twice visited Mme Anna Gould at the St. Regis and later at the Waldorf Astoria.
