Daughters Seek Pension for Chelsea Woman Pratts Revolutionary Father

The Daughters of the Revolution push a special pension bill for Mrs. Rebecca Pratt of Chelsea, daughter of a Revolutionary War soldier born in Charlestown in 1745 and died in Boston in 1821. Her father served five years in the commissary department under General Devens and was paid in continental paper money. Although the father was never granted a pension, his wife later received a small pension until her death. Congressman Roberts and Senator Lodge cite pension committee rules denying claims for children of Revolutionary soldiers unless severely incapacitated. Mrs. Pratt, 68, is of sound mind and has long been charitable, living in a house built in 1640 on land granted to Sir Harry Vane, occupied by her late husband’s family.
