Senate Fire Insurance Bill and Railways Satiate Boston Session

The Senate reported a bill to regulate fire insurance firms and mutuals affecting solvency and enabling director assessments. a Sugar Refinery capital increase of 500000 was introduced. In the House the Railways Committee reported a Melrose and South Reading Horse Railroad charter with 100000 capital. Remonstrances opposed Troy and Greenfield Railroad aid. Cambridge sidewalks bill debated after third reading vote 133 to 52.

One Hundredth New York Volunteers Take Cole's Island

The pioneer corps of the grand expedition, the One Hundredth New York Volunteers under Col G B Dand, seized Cole's Island nine miles from Charleston marking the start of the operation against Charleston. The movement is openly planned and proceeding.
