Miss Mary Morse, the organist, uncovered a plan in Bath Maine to ignite the Universalist Church by a gas pipe disconnection and a lighted lamp near the organ. The bottom of the organ was ablaze and gas escaped, risking a catastrophic explosion that could have destroyed the building.
The Rev. A. B. Hervey pastor and the Winthrop Mass. organ repairer George Tucker are mentioned as non enemies. Police seek Tucker for possible clues to a revenge motivated attack on the church work completed two weeks ago.
After Lisbon elections conducted calmly, rioting broke out across the city. Police and troops fought mobs using clubs and stones, firing upon them and causing casualties.
