New Haven Area Buckingham Wins In County Vote

The April despatches report Buckingham (Union) winning increased majorities across eight towns Derby East Haven Guilford Meriden North Branford North Haven Orange and Woodbridge. Seymour loses in several towns but Union gains noted in Westport Greenwich and others. Morris Tyler elected Mayor of New Haven by a 50 vote margin. Wrecks near Cape Henry amid gale as troops survive

The steamer Fair Haven and schooner Fanny Bell were wrecked on the beach south of Cape Henry during the gale of the night of the 1st inst. Four hundred six troops aboard Fair Haven survived. Captain Ainsworth and four small steamers searched for a large distressed steamer off Cape Henry but returned empty handed. Rebel officials Ould and Hatch returned to their flag of truce boat and may head to Richmond.

Constitution brings soldiers and supplies to the region

The steamer Constitution from New Orleans arrived at Carno Illinois with sugar and molasses for Cincinnati and St Louis, plus 426 mules and 75 wagons for the 17th Army Corps. The 1st Indiana Artillery and part of the 3d Minnesota veterans arrived en route to New Orleans and Little Rock respectively. Cotton market steady to higher with 350 bales from White River and 75 from country received. prices for middling to strictly good advance.

Cincinnati April 4 An order from the War Department to the Provost Marshal General of Ohio discharges four privates from different regiments for being under 18. The enlistment expenses are to be deducted from the pay of the examining officer, the surgeon, and the officer who mustered them in.
