Seven Steamers Docked at Port From Various Ports

A heavy day at the port saw seven steamers arriving from different foreign ports. Notable arrivals included the Warren liner Kansas and Leyland liner Lancastrian from Liverpool, both leaving Mersey March 22. Others were the Furness liner Cambrian London and Axminster with 200 tons of salt from Trapani. The Halifax reached Lewis Pier from Nova Scotia on its first trip in six months, and coal cargoes arrived aboard the George W. Wells fleet of four and fivers. The Eleanor A. Percy neared from Newport News with a sixer status to follow. Wrecking lighter Oak brought cargo from the stranded Indian, as the lighters Sipho and Ant were alongside. Weather improved and pumps may be started aboard ships today. Tug Wrestler faced trouble towing the Lyndhurst but later the Housatonic was towed to New York. A crew portion from the Kathleen was landed at Dominica. New charters include Harry Luckenbach to Hampton Roads, ram Emery to Sierra Leone, and Athena to Bahia Blanca. The Diers strike led to changes at South Boston, with the side-wheeler Arwick sailing to Providence and longshoremen forming an association, planning a May 12 dance at Roughan's Hall to fund HQ alterations. The Helen B. Thomas and the Robert and Arthur arrived with fish from the grounds, paying 21½ cents a pound. The Wanderman.
