Mott Protest Award to Roxie at dog show
There was no abatement in the crowd at Mechanics Hall yesterday with records broken at this year’s exhibition. The Lawson dogs attracted the most attention as the New England Kennel Club saw strong showings from bulldogs and spaniels. Roxie’s win over Champion Lord Derby sparked a potential objection from Dr. J Varnum Mott, who claims only two judges officiated and one had sold Roxie. Kilmer’s Remick Bonnie topped the limit class and open class for bitches. Other breeds were judged, including Irish terriers and Yorkshire terrier Tiny owned by Mrs. M. D Doherty. The show closes today with special prizes and many dogs on display. There are rumors of a bulldog Lady Constance being dosed with cocaine to mask lameness before judging.
