In Fromraron New Jersey on April 3 a large Newfoundland owned by Abner Aber of Middle Valley broke free from chains and attacked people including Aber who was bitten severely on the hand. Eight year old Josie Enell and Michael Apps were also bitten. The dog bit several other dogs which were killed. After a wild run the animal was shot on Pleasant avenue. The dog showed clear signs of rabies.
On April 3 in St Louis Browns beat Milwaukee by 8 to 1 in a Sunday game. Cracrynatt’s league team won 4 to 2 at O. Toledo defeated Columbus 4-2 in a close contest. In Louisville the Louisville team overwhelmed Toledo 19 to 1 with a strong all around performance.
A general committee for Carney Hospital's annual entertainment met at the hospital. They accepted Manager Harris's offer of free use of the Columbia Theatre for the event. A grand sacred concert is planned for Sunday evening, May 1, at that venue. The notice adds Dr Bull's Cough Syrup as a relief for congested air passages, priced at 25 cents.

Ex-President Grover Cleveland arrives in Boston with Gov Russell and Mayor Matthews, drawing about 8000 Democrats at Park Square station. The party tours Beacon Street, Cambridge and Chestnut Hill, meets Governor Russell at his home, then sails to Fall River for onward travel. Cleveland expresses pleasure with the visit and regrets not staying longer.

A Sunday fire in a two story wooden building at 158 and 160 Essex street Salem caused roof damage and an estimated loss of 40 dollars to the structure owned by G. L. Ames. The second floor housed Theresa Kelly a dressmaker and John F. Fleming a tailor while the first floor housed Storr Hewitt a jeweler and an Italian fruit dealer. Water damage to the building and stocks is about 61000 dollars.
Fire in Duncan and Jacksons block shop in Barn Missouri destroyed the building owned by Charles Davenport. Loss estimated at 4000 dollars with no insurance. Fire occurred on April 3 and is attributed to an incendiary.
A massive blaze, fed by a cigarette, devastates Crescent City causing 2.5 million dollars in damage. Firemen battle inferno as winds drive flames through residences and vast cotton bales ignite, with crews burying and rescuing under a scene of fiery grandeur.
In New Orleans on April 3 a massive fire began about 10:30 in front of the Fireproof press on North Front Street, swiftly consuming 10 000 bales of cotton stored there and spreading to the Shipper and Independence presses. Despite alarms and heavy water streams, wind and dry cotton fueled rapid destruction across a two block area, with 50 000 bales at the Shipper press and 20 000 at the Orleans press also burned. crews faced peril as walls collapsed and spectators watched in awe. The fire ultimately gutted the presses and left charred remains, with little possibility to save the stored cotton.
