Idaho and Montana in the Senate Admission Debate
Members clash over Idaho statehood and Montana election rights as Congress weighs admissions. Arizona, Wyoming, and the fate of polygamy provisions surface amid power plays and procedural delays, with arguments about fair treatment of territories and citizenship rights. The debate touches constitutional boundaries and the role of canvassing boards, while accounts note adjournment after remarks and a tribute resolution for Representative Wilbur.
Senate Debates Antitrust Bill Substitute Reported
In Washington April 2 the Senate committee reports back the anti trust bill in substitute form noting one overbroad section. Edmunds says Montana election case must be disposed of before bill is taken up. The bill makes illegal every restraint of trade and imposes up to 5000 dollar fines and possible imprisonment. It extends to territories and DC and empowers circuit courts to issue interim restraining orders.
