Lodge on Protection at Harvard Finance Club Speech

Henry Cabot Lodge defended protective tariffs at Sanders Theatre Cambridge arguing the issue is a national business question not a moral or scientific one. He contrasted protection with free trade, attacked the Manchester school, cited England’s use of protection, and stressed protection preserves home markets and wages while supporting nascent industries and industrial independence.
