A large crowd gathered at New Era Hall as the Journeymen Custom Tailors Union ordered a strike set for Monday at 9 am. Over 500 workers will march from Tremont street to protest non signatories while shops with signed agreements will resume. Several bosses signed the pants and coat bills, while a few withheld payment.

The White trial for shooting Judge Ward has begun in Abingdon with large crowds. Prosecution led by F N Williams of Lynchburg and John Rowan of Abingdon. defense includes General James A Welker and Colonel John Summers. Seventeen witnesses have testified. Judge G J Holbrook of Wythe county has been selected to preside.
New York April 2 two more aldermen were taken into custody Rudolph I L Fulgrafft a Tammany member was escorted from his Fulton street box factory by a detective to the district attorney’s office Alderman James Pearson was arrested at the investigating committee meeting The grand jury had found indictments for bribery against Kirk and Pearson and they were arraigned separately Pearson said there was a lot of fun going on Fulgreff testified before the Senate committee and denied paying bribes while acknowledging rumors of boodle and a broadway railroad franchise grant The witness described early morning meetings and a petition signed by many names as a pretext for the vote.
Abstracts show condition of 2767 national banks as of March 1 1886 with totals for United States bonds real estate deposits and cash items. Highlights include 171 608 269 capital stock 593 810 615 deposits 1 152 624 995 individuals and 256 958 658 notes outstanding and 12 439 000 United States certificates of deposit.
Last evening in Monument Mall Charlestown about fifty children in fancy costumes displayed dances led by Ella Murdock Edith Sawyer and Miss Mamie Murdock. Messer’s orchestra provided music while Hicks served supper and parents filled the hall for a night of dancing.
The fifth annual Vermont Merino Sheep Shearing Association event in Middlebury opened Wednesday and closed today with fewer entrants due to poor roads. About sixty sheep were shorn over three days, with top fleeces listed in several classes: Ram 4 years 37 lb 6 oz, Ram 3 years 35 lb 4 oz, Ram 2 years 26 lb 13 oz, Yearling Ram 18 lb, Ewe 3 years 20 lb 5 oz, Ewe 2 years 11 lb 2 oz, Yearling Ewe 14 lb 12 oz.
Company K of the Union Veteran Army met at Grand Army Hall last evening and welcomed Department Commander Dennett of Somerville and Col Griggs with staff. The Somerville Lacrosse Club held its first meeting at 96 Boston street led by officers Gilkey, Cubbderry, Davis, and Niccolls to reorganize and set new bylaws.
The Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe railroad cut transcontinental rates on the New York to San Francisco lane on February 19 1906 triggering a pool-wide response. The move ends a long rate fight with Huntington and Strong involved in ultimatums and telegraphic negotiations. Officials anticipate restored old rates after today and a pool meeting may follow.

Citizens in Brockton discuss building a branch to Mansfield to connect with the Boston and Providence railroad. They argue it would boost Brockton as an manufacturing hub and improve access to Boston Providence Worcester and New York. A meeting of supporters is planned.
Henry Hardwick was struck by the 5:19 in ward train at Savin Hill on the Old Colony road last evening. His left shoulder was dislocated and he suffered additional injuries, requiring removal to City Hospital, Hero sides at Minot Place, Neponset. Two overcoats belonging to Benjamin Greely and John D. Sheppard were stolen from the Orchester High School building yesterday morning. A 12 foot rowboat owned by F. E. Sanderson was stolen yesterday morning from Popes Hill.
The Pierce Light Guard Company C held a private masquerade at Boylston Hall last night with about 250 couples attending. Dancing ran until 2 AM. The event featured tinaskers costumes and a well organized setup led by Lt A J Noether and Lt G H Luscomb.
The trial of Philip Lacoste for the January 17 Woonsocket murder of Michael De large ended with a guilty verdict. A motion for a new trial was filed and sentencing was deferred.
Jeremiah Mahoney of Stoneham, intoxicated, spoke with Margaret Bradley of Nashua Street on a Boston corner. Bradley allegedly snatched a pocket watch, broke its chain, dropped the watch while fleeing, and was arrested by Wright and Hirary of Scation. The watch was valued at $15.
William Wells Newell presented a stereopticon show at Chickering Hall with images of Pompeii and surrounding areas. He compared Vesuvius in the present to its state during the fatal eruption and displayed ruins such as temples Venus and Isis a gladiatorial arena and the final scenes of Pompeii.
Captain Charles Campbell of the brig Charles Duncan has been missing since last Tuesday. His wife and two children are aboard at Kelly's wharf. He was last seen on Kelly's deck and is believed to have fallen overboard while attempting to reach his vessel. A crew dragged for his body last evening.
Captain Waters leads salvage of the brig Fredelest wreck at Seaconnet Point. The schooner Young America cannot reach the site, small boats are used, and about a thousand hides plus two bales of horse hair are saved. If weather stays favorable, most cargo may be saved. another schooner will depart Saturday morning.
Hartford reports at the Democratic city convention Colonel E. M. Graves editor of the Telegram was nominated for mayor. He is associated with labor interests and carries Labor element support in part.

The German steamer Jacoff Prosoroff arrived with Valencia oranges bound for Boston after a sixty two day voyage from Valencia. Severe gales and engine failures forced reliance on sails, lengthening the trip beyond normal durations. Despite rough seas and damaged progress, cargo valued at five cents a box reportedly remains in prime condition.
An organized gang suspected of multiple North End break-ins was pursued by police Thursday night into Friday morning. Joseph Sullivan, Martin Kennedy, and Lewis Smith were arrested inside and near Newcomb's shoe store at 166 Hanover Street. Kennedy and Smith, with prior sentences, are linked to earlier entries. authorities identify Smith as Thomas Sheehan.
New York report says W S Warner and his wife disappeared after a referee ordered Warner to pay Receiver Davis $1.4 million. They are said to have moved all funds to Mrs Warner and mortgaged assets to shield creditors. Only furniture at the Fifth Avenue home and a Long Beach villa valued at about $50,000 remain as reachable assets.
Joseph B. Brown 54 formerly of Lawrence Mass fell thirty feet from a staging at 235 West E Street while painting. He was taken to City Hospital and died at 6 p m of a skull fracture.
Dover habit of Sunday closures extends to barber shops by order of the board of sher men. City marshal to enforce the rule, though older laws against livery stables and milk teams stay unenforced. The Sunday law has long remained a dead letter in practice.
President Disz tells Congress that Mexican volunteers from Chehauhua killed Captain Crawford. He notes the treaty allowed only regular troops to cross the frontier in pursuit of hostile Indias, while volunteers acted beyond that rule.
Elmer E. Boynton narrowly escaped serious injury yesterday when caught in a factory elevator on Union Street. He leapt to the floor and struck a developing injury to the face, expected to be confined at home for several days. The new bicycle track is set to open May 3.

The Legislative railroad committee with Boston and Lowell railroad officers traveled by barge to inspect the Charlestown to Peabody extension via Lynn. The party lunched at Comee with a lavish repast hosted by Mr. Borcebe. Attendees included Edward Morey, Melden, Tuttle, HH Turner, A A Strout, Senator Norris, Wharter, Mayors Hart and Raymond, multiple Lynn and Salem representatives, and others. They departed Boston on an execution train in the parlor car Fabvan’a and reviewed the entire route, dinner lasting until 5 o'clock before barges returned to Boston.
John C. Leary a 14 or 15 year old boy faced United States Commissioner Hallett on a charge of maliciously interfering with a street letter box. He admitted thrusting a mud smeared stick into the box, damaging its outward appearance. The frightened youth listened to solemn admonitions and faces likely to curb such acts in the future.
Joseph Mason Everett longtime Canton leader and Boston manager for Manhattan Life Insurance Company of Newark died yesterday. Born January 6 1528 in Canton he served twenty years on the school board and chaired it at death contributing to strong public schools and Masonic circles. Judge John Baxter Sixth US Judicial Circuit died in Knoxville at 67 after brief illness in Hot Springs Arkansas.
The railroad commissioners with Charles F. Choate reviewed a new interlocking signal system built for the Old Colony Railroad by the Pennsylvania Steel Company. Levers in an elevated building control switches and signals, engineered to prevent operator mistakes, and viewed as a vital aid to safe, expanding railway travel. The commissioners, after thorough inspection, left the city satisfied.
Fredercsh McDonald aged 35 fell into the hold of the Belgian steamer Pieter De Connock while in Charlestown dry dock last evening. He died en route to Massachusetts General Hospital at 2 39 this morning from injuries sustained onboard.
The survivors of the Tenth Battery Light Artillery Massachusetts Volunteers met at Young's Hotel for their eighth reunion and dinner. Officers were elected: President J Henry Sleeper Vice President Augustus H White Stephen H Johnson Secretary Treasurer Charles E Pierce and executive committee John D Billings George H Day Joseph Currant Benjamin E Cohen W Y Gross. Speeches followed the dinner by officers and others.
At a Randolph Republican caucus held last evening nominations were made for town offices including selectmen overseers of the poor town clerk and treasurer with Royal A. Mann John A. Thayer Rufus A. Thayer and Hiram R. Alten named for these roles.
