Severe Spring Floods Ravage Dakotas and Upper Missouri
A large storm across Iowa Minnesota Wisconsin Illinois and northern Michigan brought heavy snow and record floods on the Missouri River. Despatches report gorges 15 miles above Sioux City and towns like Green Island Nebraska swept away. Boats wrecked at Yankton and Vermillion flooded bottom lands, with thousands displaced and rail ties washed away. Damages run into tens of thousands, with rescues made as ice jams and rising waters threaten communities along the river.
