Alcoholism blamed in sudden West Newton death

James Barrett, 33, a laborer, died suddenly at Cottage Place West Newton yesterday afternoon after entering the home of Timothy Cronin. Medical Examiner Meade of Watertown ruled death due to alcoholism. Barrett left a mother and sister in Fall River.

Watertown Names Chief Ducey New Police Head

Chief Laurence J. Ducey arrived in Watertown and was presented to the police force by Lieutenant Lafayette G. Blair. He began his official duties this morning and suggested improvements to the station house and lock-up for rapid action by the Selectmen.

Rhode Island capitalists buy 1500 acres near Dry Gulch Wyoming

A Rhode Island group buys 1500 acres of placer land in the Dry Gulch district along Snake River for about 120000, including the ditch. They also secure the Snake River water right at Dixon and let a major firm handle ditch extension. A new town will be laid out fifteen miles west of Baggs.

Large bicycle turnout despite wind at Coolidge Corner

A windy Sunday drew nearly as many riders as last week with long lines of cyclists up to Coolidge Corner and many in the park afterward. The Roxbury and Metropolitan Wheelmen clubs reported many members, arrivals by ambulance corps, and several accidents. Next Thursday Suffolk members will consider eight new applications and a revised constitution.

Somerville High School baseball team may lose its nine this season as city growth limits fields. The YMCA on Washington street charges 45 for nine weeks use, with a recent concert raising funds for gear. officials hope to raise 15 more to keep the team. Secretary Symonds says revenue from the field supports YMCA needs, but the high school aims to be a credit to the school and raise the needed amount.

Sunday Baseball Practice Draws Big Cincinnati Crowd

In Cincinnati on March 31 Indianapolis and the Reds played before a large crowd of 5929. The game was well played with a final score of 14 to 1 in favor of Cincinnati. Earlier Memphis saw St. Louis defeat them 12 to 3, and Baltimore beat New Orleans 15 to 6 in a separate series game.

Indoor meet at Worcester yields close finishes and notable runners
