Word that Tampico fell sparks rebel morale as Villa shifts aim toward Mexico City while urging arms through Wilson. Heavy estimates place 1500 to 2000 fatalities after a grand assault as artillery battered a city fortification creating a large breach. The report notes the attack aimed to overrun the town and describes extensive casualties from the fighting.
Vera Cruz May 14 Tampico’s fall hastens Huerta’s doom as constitutionalists take the north and shift the civil war to the south. Federal losses around oil town exceed 3,000 with Gen Zaragoza’s 7,000 troops suffering heavy strikes. 2,000 reportedly escape on the Mexican Central train.
The Rev R Everette Lucas and Miss Vanice B King were married quietly at Huntington on Tuesday afternoon. Lucas, a Lebanon minister, is 26 with sixteen years of educational work as pastor and evangelist. Miss King, Huntington high school graduate, trained at Terre Haute State Normal, is a talented musician. They will reside at 1109 North Meridian Lebanon Indiana. Friends in Warren, Huntington county and Lebanon extend congratulations.
In Louisville tobacco district a warehouse fire destroyed 2000 hogsheads of tobacco and caused $250,000 in damage. Electrician Charles Koch was electrocuted amid the flames as a roof collapsed. twenty firefighters narrowly escaped death when walls fell. Eight injured seriously, three-story collapse halted rescue efforts before dawn.
George T. Miller hires Thomas Joyce of Kokomo to finish digging the third ward sewer. Joyce arrives next week with three machines and strong facilities to push the work toward early completion.
General Carranza informed the U S State Department that representatives may be sent to Mexican oil districts to safeguard American interests as Tampico nears constitutionalist control. President Wilson praised the move and urged quick action to reopen wells with unarmed civilian oversight.
McDowell tripped a rifle while aiding in locating a rat at a barn. The gun discharged, the bullet pierced two middle fingers, one through and nearly through the other. Dr Hall removed the bullet and treated the wounds. he is in a sling and lucky the accident was not worse.
The city council ordered a flagman for the South East street crossing. Earl Bratton was given the position and began work this morning at the Big Four crossing.
John Riley McDonald aged 65 5 months 9 days died after paralysis last Monday. Born December 5 1848 in Boone county he was married October 1873 to Eiiza H Turner. Survived by Otis Carl Mattie Morton Carry Anderson and brothers Hugh and Robert. Presbyterian Hopewell church member funeral Saturday at 10 30 a m Rev A A Pratt Crawfordsville. Interment Hopdwell cemetery.
B M Stoddard state secretary of Christian Endeavor of Indians organized a rally for the Western and Central Indiana Conferences. The event will gather C E societies at First Christian church on Sunday May 31 with Lebanon participants helping and delegates expected. Plans covered entertainment and the rally program.

The Woman's Missionary Society of the First Baptist met for its regular monthly gathering at the church with strong attendance. Mrs. Chas Morgan led the devotional, Mrs. Ed Stephenson oversaw the study hour on the Sunday school and church, papers were read by Mrs. Roberts and Mrs. Will Ransdell, and Misses Mary Stephenson and Ruth Weitzel sang. M.2. T. H. Martin was elected treasurer and Mrs. Ed Stephenson secretary, replacing Mrs. Ollie Dodd who resigned. Hostesses served chicken sandwiches and coffee: Mesdames A. C. Hissong, Grover Romino, S. T. Reynolds, Newt Kersey, Richard McClain, Joan Updike, Mrs. Lucy Campbell, and Miss Bettie Kersey.
A Parent-Teachers Association committee finished its preliminary work on two blank forms for the employment bureau. One form targets employers seeking help and the other for job seekers. The bureau will serve as a clearing house to aid both sides.
John W. Reagan was jailed in Sheridan after allegedly striking his father and threatening self harm. He was bound over to the circuit court by Justice Steffy, with Marshal Clay and Prosecutor Osborn accompanying him. Reagan, a former mail carrier now farming, had recent family trouble and drinking cited at the hearing.
County Agent R W Imel learned at the annual spring meeting of the Indiana Cattle Feeders Association to be held in Lafayette on May 16. A feature will be an exhibit of cattle fed on different rations in adjoining lots. J D Waters of Dawson HI, a successful cattle feeder, will deliver two talks including My Method of Feeding Cattle and other addresses will be given.
Harl Matthews aged 82 died at his home near Sheridan Tuesday night. His parents Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Matthews were called to Indianapolis Wednesday due to the critical illness of their daughter Mrs. Leslie Wand, whose recovery is doubtful. The family received many sympathy messages.
Mark McDowell, son of Grant McDowell of near Shannondale, suffered a painful accident last Saturday at the home of his father-in-law James E Ashwell. He and one of the Ashwell boys were involved in the incident.
The Ninth Councillor District annual meeting of the Indiana State Medical Association will take place at Mudlavia on May 21. Dr. J. R. Ball of this city is scheduled to present a paper on Eelampsis, and Dr. H. A. Beck of this city serves on the committee on scientific work.
Governor Ralston need not call an extra session as the Poindexter bill heads to the president for signature. The state election commissioners will place U.S. Senate candidate names on the ballot in the same manner as other statewide officers, matching convention nominations.
