London based report notes Al Akhbar urged Egypt to bar canal opening until Israeli troops withdraw behind 1949 lines. Israeli forces have withdrawn some distance from the canal while Jerusalem dispatches continue.

County Judge Choice Moore, District Clerk Lloyd Tarver, County Clerk E. E. Lee and County Superintendent Jim Moulton begin new four year terms. Constables Jack Leonard Wade Morris Alex McClure and L. A. Sealey were also re elected. the justice of the peace did not campaign.
A small blaze caused slight damage to the R. Roach residence in the Chaf area shortly before 3 o'clock on Monday afternoon. The house is owned by W. Shaffin.
Wade Webb succeeds H A Burow as manager of the Bonham Cotton Mills with a Tuesday start. Webb, from Columbus Georgia, has a textile engineering degree from Texas Tech and service in World War II. He is married with two children and a Baptist, living at 206 East 8th Street.
Concrete mixing plant to provide concrete for the Alphaduct Wire and Cable building foundation is being established on site. Bob Zurier of Robbing Contracting Co reports dirt fill completed with edges smoothed to prepare for pouring concrete pillars and foundations.
The Daily Favorite announces an early edition to publish Tuesday New Year’s Day. Efforts will push to get on the press before noon so staff may enjoy an afternoon off.
President Eisenhower gave Republican congressional leaders a preview of his proposed 85th Congress program. He opened a day long session with House and Senate leaders at 8 a m CST in the White House cabinet room.
