Hawaii learned the school bond election outcome Thursday night when John Armstrong, in Honolulu for a bankers convention, was wired the results by Bob Williams. Students Council praised for directing voters at the high school polling area.
Dr. Howard M. Chase, visiting Portland, took a road test at the Registry of Motor Vehicles in a right hand drive 1923 Buick. Examiner Conrad Boulander said the antique car performed beautifully and Chase, who holds a Missouri license, passed the test.
In Leeds England Darren Hill 4 dyed his hair silver with his sister's dye and covered himself with makeup. His mother said he cannot attend school until the spray fades, likely about a week.
In Leeds England UPI reports Sir Karl Cohen vice president of the Northeastern Association of Public Health Inspectors notes that more households own television sets than bathtubs in Britain, highlighting changing domestic comforts.
Eight year old Clinton Barrett was wounded in the leg when a bullet fired from a monkey wrench exploded after he found a bullet, clamped it in the wrench and struck the steps of his home in St Louis Missouri. Police described the accident as a misfire from the improvised weapon.
HEW Secretary Robert H. Finch told Treasury's David Kennedy that a House tax reform bill could destroy private foundations. They rehearse in Cape Kennedy and the Saturn V rocket undergoes final readiness tests on Launch Pad 39A.
President Nguyen Van Thieu told UPI newsmen that most American combat troops could leave Vietnam only after Vietnam’s army is modernized. He ruled out complete withdrawal in 1970 and urged continued U.S. support while pursuing national reconciliation and free elections.
Deputy Van Zandt reports burglars hit the Bugtussle store Friday night stealing a cash register open for $50 in candy and a cold drink vending machine case. They caused several hundred dollars in damage to furnishings and merchandise after prying a door lock. Sheriff Jackson and Deputy Van Zandt investigated. owner Sam Cunningham previously told of an earlier break-in this year.
