Weather disrupts newspaper and magazine collection as Lions pause safe sharing. Rain Sunday morning and afternoon cuts turnout. drive to resume at 3 PM if skies clear. Local notes include fire department chatter, a squirrel on a phone line, and Huntsville prison Sunday schedule.
Two wrecks were reported Monday by city police. One involved a moving car driven by Larry Joe Briscoe and a parked truck owned by Robert Bo Brown on Lipscomb. Gen Edwin A Walker disputed the Warren Commission finding and argued there were plots between Lee Harvey Oswald and Jack Ruby. He asserted sufficient links between Rubenstein and Oswald to prove a conspiracy, noting Ruby had once been Rubenstein. He accepted the commission's view that Oswald fired at him on April 10, 1963 while Oswald filed income tax returns.
Bonham merchants declare September 27 to October 3 as Bonham Felt Hat Week. Local retailers feature special offers and new felt hat styles as fall activities and football games arrive. Mayor John Crockett has proclaimed the week with an official note.
A car two positions behind President Johnson in his motorcade burst into flames in Providence. The burning vehicle held Rear Adm. George W. Barkley and several news photographers. The president continued without noticing. Barkley and photographers escaped as a policeman battled the blaze with an extinguisher near Waterman Street.
