The Oct. 22 trial will proceed over alleged labor law violations and more than 1 million in illegal payments from Commercial Carriers of Detroit. Hoffa’s lawyers argued ongoing publicity would deny a fair trial.
About 2000 delegates at the convention re elected Maurice Hutcheson to a four year term as president of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America he has held that post since the mid twenty first century.

In Dickens Texas an automobile struck two Texas Highway Department painters working on the center stripe of U S Highway 82. Walter Riley McEndree age 41 was killed and Ralph Wayne Shipman age 41 was seriously injured. Both men were from Childress.
Bonham Independent School District reports a 471 901 rise in property valuations for 1962, boosting district total to 9 211 276. Consolidation with Randolph adds over 200 000. district tax rate set at 1.60 per 100 with 1.10 for maintenance and 0.50 for bond payments. Outstanding debt totals 619 300, including 8 200 Randolph debt assumed in consolidation. Membership up from 1 858 to 1 864 with notable changes across Bailey Inglish Washington Stephenson and junior high figures.
