The U S Weather Bureau predicts clear to partly cloudy skies and warmer afternoons for Bonham through Saturday. Daytime temps should reach the upper 80s with lows in the 60s after a 63 degree morning and 83 degree high on Thursday. No showers are expected in the forecast.

Overnight shellings hit 12 targets including Dong Ha, home of the 3rd Marine Division, as U S. forces report light casualties and no deaths. Carl Hanes Rites Set in Bonham Saturday

Carl Hanes 56 of Ravenna died en route to a Bonham hospital after a heart attack at Hanes Farm Equipment on North Center Street. Funeral services are at 3 p m Saturday at First Baptist with Rev. Mac Hargrove. interment Willow Wild cemetery. He served 14 years on the Bonham Independent School District board and on the Fannin County Electric Co Operative board. Survivors include his wife Juanita, a son Blanton, two daughters Freddie and Rexene, three sisters, a brother, and five grandchildren.

Green Berets in Saigon face murder court martial plead innocent

Six Green Berets accused in the Nha Trang murder case will plead not guilty. Capt. Robert F. Marasco and five others face charges of murder and conspiracy tied to a Vietnamese national described as a CIA double agent. Cairo radio reported Egyptian air defenses repelled Israeli raids along the Gulf of Suez, claiming three planes shot down with no Egyptian losses. House Approves Direct Vote for President thds 339 to 70

The House passed a constitutional amendment to replace the Electoral College with direct presidential elections. If the Senate agrees and enough states ratify, a runoff would occur if no candidate gains 40 percent. The measure faces long odds before a possible 26th amendment.

Absentee Voting In Progress For School Bond Election

Absentee voting in the school bond election is now in progress at the school tax office 538 North Center. Mrs Morell Newton is absentee vote clerk. Monday is final day for in person ballots while mailed ballots must be postmarked before 10 am Tuesday.

Nixon Sees Slow Progress On Core Legislative Aims

President Nixon voiced disappointment at slow action on his basic programs in draft reform postal reform and anticrime legislation. House GOP Leader Gerald Ford and Senator Gordon Allott said the White House seeks substantial committee action with hopes to complete most proposals by next year while Mansfield noted little chance for draft reform this year due to committee backlogs.

Bank Robbery Report At Bensalem Plaza

Two gunmen in white hats robbed the First Pennsylvania Bank at Bensalem Plaza in Levittown area of PA, fleeing with about $8,000. Police pursued leads but no arrests announced.

Nixon Cancels Draft Calls for November and December

President Nixon announced the cancellation of draft calls for 50,000 men in November and December. He said 32,000 to be called in November and 18,000 in December would be halted, and 29,000 scheduled for October would be phased out across the final quarter. He warned of a lottery or random selection system by executive order if Congress does not act this year.

Gober Residents Eligible to Vote in School Bond Election

Bonham Chamber of Commerce directors unanimously approved a September school bond election and a half million dollar bond issue plus higher interest on unsold funds to finance a new high school. Supt. Campbell cited rising costs and interest rates. Campaign plans announced and Jaycees endorsed the measure for city growth.
