Police search for a hit and run driver after a 3 year old girl was killed and a 3 year old boy critically injured. Rep Robert OKelley receives probation and a 1000 dollar fine in a travel voucher scheme. A father’s attorney warns of a 100000 civil suit over a youth inmate death in Tarrant County. The Court of Criminal Appeals orders a new trial in a Port Arthur heroin case. Cotton farmers face cold weather losses though relief is possible. Promoters say 70000 counterfeit Labor Day tickets were claimed but officials confirm about 1000 bogus tickets. A recall move against San Antonio mayor and four councilors ends without enough votes without an annexed area.

Bids for the new Bonham Public Library were opened Wednesday afternoon by architect Mike Brown. Six firms submitted bids with two others not bidding. Ten alternates included. contract award planned for Oct 1 with work to start by Nov 1 on a site east of the City Hall.
United Press International reports Mondale blasting Ford during a campaign kickoff at the University of Michigan. Mondale accuses Ford of misrepresentation on unemployment home ownership and health care while Ford promotes housing cuts and broader health care access. Carter refrains from comment on Ford's remarks, praising the court but criticizing the economy and the President’s handling. Mondale defends Carter in Minnesota and coordinates dinner plans in Washington amid debate over Supreme Court decisions.
Bonham faces a funding item at the Texoma Regional Planning Commission meeting Friday at noon. The City of Bonham seeks 32000 from the Economic Development Administration to finance the new public library east of the city hall. Bids for construction are set to be awarded October 1 with a November 1 start deadline.

The Texas Railroad Commission ordered continued maximum production for October marking the 55th month at peak. October crude oil nominations and totals reached 3.96 million barrels per day, down 9,451 bpd from September, while crude imports rose to 5.58 million bpd in September, up 859 bpd from January 2, 1976, and up 1.8 million bpd vs January 3, 1975.
UAW President Leonid Woodcock declined to forecast an end date for the Ford labor strike, stating it will exceed the two weeks some expect. The walkout involves about 170,000 workers at 102 Ford plants across 22 states, amid a billion-dollar three-year proposal dispute. Ford production slows by about 40,000 cars weekly, with $50 million weekly lost to wages and a $175 million strike fund draining at $11 million weekly.
Secretary of State Henry Kissinger arrived in Lusaka amid mixed signals from regional leaders. He cited close coordination with frontline states Zambia Botswana Tanzania Mozambique and planned talks with Zambian President Kuanda before traveling to Pretoria.
In Udine and surrounding Friuli regions a new series of moderate earthquakes struck adding to the disaster that left thousands in tents after a May 6 quake that killed nearly a thousand and displaced 79,000. Police report seven deaths and about 80 injuries as a heavy storm worsened misery for about 20,000 refugees still living in soggy camps.
The Bonham police department was at full strength as Lonnie Henegar began duties as a new officer. The Fannin county sheriff's department operated with one vacancy. Henegar previously served under Sheriff Raymond Taylor.
Partly cloudy and mild conditions are forecast for Bonham through Friday with temperatures from the upper 60s to around 90. Saturday morning brought 63 degrees after a 89 degree Wednesday afternoon. The Texas Panhandle and North Texas saw showers and fog in East Texas this morning. County officials note a staff change as Mike Bankston resigns to become county juvenile officer. Chief Jay Duckworth reports Henegar joins the force and J N Durham shifts to patrolman. Lewis McGuire becomes animal control officer. Sheriff Taylor has no replacement for Henegar yet and expects a short-handed period. Field deputies include Harvey Trapp Sam Patton and Bobby Madison. H R Van Zandt is office deputy and day dispatcher with Terry Fite as night dispatcher.
A Friday 10 am meeting in the Texas Power and Light assembly room will discuss drawing tourism to Bonham and Fannin County. Howard Rosser of the East Texas Chamber of Commerce will speak, with Dr. John Jameson proposing the name Sam Rayburn Country to boost regional appeal.
Mrs. Lula Mae Edwards, 613 Cedar, was hospitalized at Fannin County Hospital after a two car crash at Seventh and North Main. She reported left shoulder pain and head lacerations. Driver Mrs. Clara Davis Brown, 105 Evans Avenue, headed south on Main. both cars sustained heavy damage. Officers Nichols and Steward investigated.
