A heavy rain and hail drenched a large Ladonia area Sunday, with rainfall over two inches and limited crop damage. The front also brought cooler temperatures to Fannin County, with light showers reported to the south of Bonham and a trace in Bonham Sunday afternoon.
The Army discharged or dropped charges against 47 prisoners of war for collaboration or related acts. Some cases were dismissed for lack of evidence while others moved toward investigation or court martial review. The move follows prior investigations across services with several men facing varying penalties.
Opening day enrollment for the 1955-58 Bonham public schools shows 1,448 students, up from 1,383 a year earlier. High school totals rise to 357 while elementary enrollment reaches 829. Stephenson Elementary drops to 129 from 140. Junior high enrollment is 263, with sophomore class down to 82 from 88.
A Sherman man and his wife were injured Sunday when their car overturned on a dirt road after a 200 yard curve. They were treated at Bonham Memorial Hospital for hearing and head injuries. The driver Taylor allegedly failed to negotiate the curve.
Washington reports Red China is likely to press for United Nations recognition and a seat. U S officials say Beijing may demand national recognition and possible representation, complicating talks on the Far East peace process and affecting Nationalist China interests.
A meeting of all persons interested in the boys baseball program is set for Tuesday evening at City Hall. Rol Lawrene who has served for several years will conduct the session to recruit volunteers, discuss coaching, scheduling and equipment, and plan for team formation and season setup.

Captain William W Bradley said talk with New York state legislators failed to resolve the dispute. Dockers on the New Jersey side at Hoboken and Jersey City refused to work as the strike spread.
Bonham residents contributed 81 pints of blood Saturday to the Wadley Blood Bank of Dallas via a mobile unit stationed at the Danish House of the Trinity Monopal church. Dr. Mallikkin and staff assisted, with voluntary workers from Wadley. blood stored in Dallas after typing and distributed to permanent centers in McKinney Sulphur Springs and Paris.
The Bonham Quarterback Club holds its first 1995 football season gathering in the high school cafeteria at 7:30 PM. President Buster Cole urges all current members to attend and invites nonmembers to join at the meeting to receive a membership card.
Two persons were killed and 12 injured when a Continental Transways bus collided with a pickup truck two miles west of Commerce. Both vehicles plunged into a ditch and burst into flames. the bus driver and sailors on board helped evacuate passengers. Police reported the bus caught fire after impact. the dead were occupants of the pickup. Seen as a local accident at the Commerce scene with hospital treatment for the injured.
Gayland D Taylor returns to the U S from active duty aboard the fleet minesweeper Zeal. He served on patrol in western Korean waters since January performing mine sweeping with Korean and Chinese forces. NatGeonalist na Vies Mro and Miss Vaylor were in California on vacation.
The forecast calls for generally fair skies and mild temperatures through Tuesday in the North Central Texas region. Light winds and no significant precipitation are expected, with daily highs near the mid 60s to low 70s and overnight lows in the 40s.
