Grand jury cites syndicate monopoly over West Texas liquor

The grand jury reports that a bootlegging syndicate holds a virtual monopoly over liquor in about 30 dry West Texas counties from Lubbock to Big Spring. It says competitors were eliminated by state liquor control board employees, often unknowingly. The grand jury invited the state crime investigating committee to investigate. Rep Fred Meridith and others met but declined comment.
