Mrs. C T Harper announces the annual Coonrod reunion at the Fair Pavilion with registration at 10 a m and a noon picnic lunch. Over 100 attended last year and more are hoped to come.
Warriors travel to Paris for a scrimmage with the Wildcats on Noyse Field tonight at 7. Cathi Bowden debuted as pianist for the Lions Club Thursday noon. Billy Rabb Taylor is on vacation with other police desk sergeants filling in. Leon Harper and Archie Hamilton pinch hit midweek.
Gray Collins announces the 1969 Tigertown homecoming on Sunday September 28 at the Community Center. Former residents current residents and friends are invited to attend with a noon basket lunch.
Congress near setting up procedures to outlaw toys with electrical, mechanical or thermal hazards. The House approved an amendment 327 to 0 to the hazardous substances act, sending the bill to a Senate that has passed a similar measure.
In Austin the Texas House rejected a Senate-approved tax proposal for the sixth time as the state runs on an emergency two month budget. Lt. Gov. Barnes and Rep. Allen urged compromise to raise needed revenue, while beer lobby influence and press coverage were cited as factors in the stalemate.
Leonard R. Marchbanks of Dodd City lost control of a westbound car on the 200 block of South 4th street Friday morning and crashed into a light pole. Assistant Chief Jay Duckworth and Officer Archie Hamilton reported the damage estimate of $350.
State Rep. James Cole said the House defeat of the latest tax bill by six votes Thursday night came as a surprise. He voted for the measure for items like beer and alcohol under sales tax, a tax on outside corporations shipping into Texas, a 10 cent drink tax on private clubs, and a 1 percent wellhead tax on natural gas. He opposed a previous version extending the sales tax to food. Conference talks continued Friday morning with hopes a bill similar to the defeated one would pass.
Austin based inquiry says a missing sunken treasure cache from 400 year old Spanish galleons off Padre Island may be with Quest Geo Marine of Redwood City California. Kilgore leads a three member commission and will question Quest Geo Marine officials to confirm possession and arrange sharing with Platoro Ltd Inc of Gary Indiana per initial salvage. The panel also aims to relocate the treasure from storage to the Balcones Research Center and will finalize its report in days.

Washington reports the Agriculture Department says a Texas food exhibitor sold his entire demonstration stock in two days at the Irish International Food and Drink Fair in Dublin. The event features enchiladas tortillas tamales and chili drawing strong demand.

The move targets less urgent federal buildings while highway, airport, and ongoing projects are exempt. U S Savings bond redemptions exceeded sales by 72 million dollars in August, marking the ninth straight month of decline. The Nixon administration urged Congress to raise the interest rate on Series E and H bonds to five percent, but Congress has not acted.
