Kenneth Ojciver, courthouse engineer, considered helping but faced trouble with the emergency brake while taking Mrs. Fletcher's car to the garage. He slammed the door on his finger and required hospital treatment including a stitch.
Fire Marshal Ferguson warns against burning trash and leaves in windy weather and raking leaves into streets. He recalls a past Sunday trash fire that could have caused a Chicago fire, urging use of contained burn receptacles to avoid sparks and smoke hazards.
A Pacific cold front brings rain and near freezing weather to Bonham. The low hits 33 F Monday, with a possible 30 F low Tuesday morning. Rain tally Saturday night was .48 inches, first since November. Dalhart and Alpine report 22 degrees in West Texas as more cold weather is expected later in the week. Clear and cold conditions persist tonight with a warming trend on Tuesday.

One person, Allie A. Alverson of Ravenna, received minor injuries in a crash on State Highway 78 near FM 898. Investigations by Officers Bobby Madison and Sam Patton noted damage estimates at 750 dollars across all three collisions involving vehicles driven by R L Reed, Donald Gene Cox, Don Eugene Knecht, Joe George Darwin, and R R Freeman on West Sam Rayburn Drive and nearby intersections.
A UPI report notes that the burro, though slow and stubborn, does not need a fancy diet and has been observed consuming unusual items such as broken glass newspapers rags old tires and tobacco in San Francisco.
A Texas historical medallion was unveiled Sunday at the 1894 W. F. Haden home in Ladonia. Owners Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cook of Dallas received the medallion from the Fannin County Historical Survey Committee. Two Haden daughters-in-law attended, presiding at a coffee table after the ceremony as visitors toured the well preserved Victorian house still filled with original furnishings and art. The event highlighted state preservation efforts and the Cooks’ long commitment to maintaining the property.
UPI reports Mighty B52 bombers struck the suspected Viet Cong jungle headquarters 65 miles northwest of Saigon and supported ground troops in a second major battle zone amid monsoon rains. North Vietnam confirmed two 48 hour ceasefires offered by the Viet Cong.
Bryant Dollarhide 24 of Whitewright died in a head on collision on U S 69 one and a half miles north of Whitewright during heavy rain. Joe Kaiser 24 and Gary Layman 16 were injured, Dollarhide’s passenger and the other driver. Dollarhide born November 21 1942 attended Whitewright schools and New Mexico Military Institute. Survivors include his parents a brother and a sister. Funeral set for 2:30 PM Monday at First Methodist Church with burial at Oak Hill under Earnheart Funeral Home.
General Telephone Co of the Southwest along with Southwestern State Telephone and Four-States Telephone announce rate cuts effective January 1 1967 for most Texas to Texas station to station calls. Three minute calls drop five to fifteen cents with larger reductions for longer calls. Night rate and Sunday interstate calls also reduced. Tariffs reflecting the new rates will be distributed to offices handling long distance calls soon.

Representative Charles Goodell outlines a tax sharing plan to distribute up to a portion of federal income tax receipts to state and local governments as an alternative to Great Society programs. The plan would funnel about 1.8 billion dollars this year, with distribution based on population and tax contribution, including a 10 percent set-aside for the 17 poorest states. Defense needs, potentially 65 to 70 billion dollars next year, could take priority.
Two uniformed East German border guards fled across the border into West Berlin on Sunday amid a hail of bullets. The incident highlights a tense border breach as authorities reported the escape occurred without casualties.
