A 74 foot spruce from Utah arrived by rail and is being set on the ellipse near the White House as the centerpiece for the Pageant of Four. The tree will take about several weeks to secure and prepare for display.
The U S Weather Bureau predicts clearing skies and warmer temperatures for the Bonham area Thursday after a Pacific front drenched North Texas Tuesday, with Bonham recording 2.05 inches of rain and creeks rising. Bond arc area roads may flood as floodwaters recede, and FM 371 could remain impacted in the northeast county before improving.
Students at Bailey Inglish School in Mrs. Greta McKenzie’s grade two class prepared books and posters to mark Thanksgiving. A severe storm system swept Texas with tornadoes hail snow and rain causing damage in Frio County and prompting school closures across the Panhandle and Southwest Texas.
Patrolman Jake Jackson reported four crashes Tuesday and Wednesday in Fannin County. A driver was found near dawn after a rollover near the county line west of Savoy. In Trenton, Connie Clark of Bonham and Ray Dacus of Denison avoided a wreck as Clark stopped and Dacus swerved into utility poles, causing minor injuries. Advm Roten of Honey Grove and Raymond Brown of Bonham suffered injuries in one car crashes on FM 100 and State 78 respectively, with Brown treated at the VA Center.
Hanoi seeks a coalition government in Saigon with Viet Cong and Buddhists, a neutral South Vietnam, and a US withdrawal timetable. The proposal includes international supervision of a cease-fire by the International Control Commission, with possible changes to its lineup amid Moscow Beijing dynamics.

A Travis County grand jury ruled there is no legal evidence to warrant action on Republican claims that Texas Department of Agriculture employees were pressured to contribute to Commissioner John C. White’s campaign. White welcomed the finding and urged focus on building Texas agriculture. The GOP had alleged coercion and fake travel vouchers to cover contributions.
Robert M. Spivy, former Bonham businessman, died in Dallas at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1968. Funeral services will be at Wise Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. Friday with Rev. Willam H. Cheatham officiating. Interment in Willow Wild Cemetery. Survivors include two daughters Pauline Muth of Dallas and Sue Kilham of Laredo, two brothers Reid Spivy Sr. of Bonham and Bert Spivy of Dallas, and seven grandchildren.
Bonham will be quiet Thursday as city county state and federal offices and businesses close for a full day at home. No events are planned beyond a community Thanksgiving service at the Seventh and Main Baptist church.
President Nguyen Van Thieu appointed Vice President Nguyen Cao Ky to supervise Saigon's delegation to the Paris Vietnam War talks. The South Vietnamese group will join the next session, ending a month long boycott. Ky, 38, is a hardline hawk guiding a tough stance, while Hanoi keeps a Viet Cong presence in the talks.
The Bonham Kiwanis Club holds its annual radio auction Tuesday from 12:39 p.m. to 5 p.m. on KFYN to raise funds for underprivileged children in Bonham and Fannin County. A goat will be auctioned with the winner naming the recipient, plus a football with Purple Warrior autographs will be sold.
