Leyte front letter from T/5 Edward L. Bowman describes landing in a muddy rice field and tough initial conditions. London November 24 Gen Charles DeGaulle will seek during his Moscow visit to negotiate a 20 year security treaty with Premier Joseph Stalin. France and Russia would pledge mutual military and economic support if Germany attacks either before 1965. An in principle agreement is expected during the visit with final signing later after details are settled.
Tepe Crossett a 45 year old bookkeeper at Lyon-Gray Lumber Company was found shot to death in his bathroom at the corner of Pine and Eleventh streets by friend Julius Evans after morning reports of gunfire. A 16 gauge shotgun lay by him as Justice of the Peace Keeton held an inquest while noting Crossett had just returned from hospital and lived alone with his wife visiting relatives. Funeral arrangements were set for 5 pm at Wise Funeral Chapel with a church service by Rev. T W Sisterson and pallbearers named. Crossett was born May 22 1897 in Moscow Tennessee and survived by his wife three brothers and a sister.
The War and Navy Departments release 528 705 overall casualties including 117 453 killed 285 857 wounded 65 789 missing and 59 96 prisoners of war. Army figures through Nov 7 show 454 180 casualties with 88 245 killed and 254 283 wounded. Navy Marine Coast Guard totals reach 74 615 with 29 208 killed and 31 574 wounded. Delaware name origin noted without landing in Delaware.
