A downtown Greenville blaze of undetermined origin destroyed seven business buildings in the heart of the city today. Damages were estimated between 125 000 and 200 000, with the fire starting in the Ry building housing the My life and spreading to Collins Furniture and other shops including the Ay Clothing Edelmans Thompson Meat Market Grocery and the Ritz Theater. The fire disrupted downtown services as it burned into the night.

Pfc. Bill Kirkpatrick writes from somewhere in France to his wife Lois of Ivanhoe Rt. 1. He landed in a big apple orchard on French soil and reports the trees were largely undamaged. Drunken driving charge filed after man dies in Dalhart crash
W C G Boston 42 of Glymon Okla was charged by complaint with drunken driving after the death yesterday of Arthur Tatum 42 of Los Angeles from injuries in an automobile wreck 30 miles north of Dalhart Texas. Mrs Dorothy Bowman 27 also of Los Angeles was treated for injuries not serious. Tatum drove a travel bureau car from California to Kansas City.
