Dallas attorney Brooks Cormah who stabbed a stenographer last May 20 was shot dead today on a busy downtown street by Miss Corinne Maddox. Maddox, 26, fired two guns and fled but was arrested after leaving the scene, carrying an empty pistol and a revolver.
London dispatch reports naval authorities stating Germanys unrestricted sea warfare sank 14 ships in nine days, including nine with heavy loss of life over the weekend. Four British merchants and five neutrals went down, many damaged but some reaching port. most sinkings near the North Sea, blamed on mines, though Berlin denies responsibility.
The Republican National Committee executive body will meet in Washington on December 7 to chart the 1940 campaign. Chairman John D. Hamilton said the conference will not decide the convention location or date, as that remains the prerogative of the full national committee.
Roermond Netherlands Navy reports a Nazi plane breached Dutch neutrality and crashed on Dutch soil after anti aircraft fire. The pilot died as three Nazi flying boats were fired upon following a Dutch protest regarding incursions into Dutch waters.
Landowners in Fannin County and part of Lamar County may present testimony at a Saturday morning hearing in the District Courtroom. C H McCleary said Texas soil conservation law allows cooperation and district formation to secure extra services. The State Soil Conservation Board will hear arguments for and against forming the district, which would cover all of Fannin and part of western Lamar.
Mrs Franklin D. Roosevelt suggested today that former President Herbert Hoover head a centralized relief agency for refugees and civilian war sufferers. She said Hoover has more experience in such work than any other person and his World War activities earned universal commendation.

COLLEGE STATION Texas cotton farmers linked with the AAA will qualify for loans on their 1939 crop. George Slaughter says the minimum rate is 6 3 cents per pound for middling 7 8 inch cotton, with location and grade differentials. Net weight and tare adjustments set the loan rates from about 8.7 to 9.2 cents per pound by region.
A Daily Herald dispatch from Zagreb reports German troops fired artillery into workers quarters to quell Prague unrest. Police and storm troopers killed or wounded about 30 students as they seized the Czech University, then lined 18 students against a wall and shot them.

Officers were asked to aid in the search for Claude Bartlett, 35, of Edhube, who vanished Friday morning after riding with Luther Brice toward Dallas to buy a pickup. Chief Jack Biggerstaff said Bartlett had between 100 and 162 in cash. Bartlett was last seen at a filling station after walking with Brice along the Bonham Sherman highway. His description: six feet tall, brown hair, scar on chin, gray shirt, green hat, brown shoes, brown trousers, sweater green mix.

Governor W Lee O Daniel told Texans on his Sunday broadcast that he will not call a special session of the Legislature to fund social security. He cited lack of a signed bill, insufficient funding, and no Senate backing, concluding a special session would burden taxpayers with about 200000 more in costs.
