United Press reports Washington November 17 the controller of currency MelIntosh announced October totals for 9 604 reporting national banks in the United States Alaska and Hawaii. The ten largest banks held 27 213 24 000 dollars the largest in the history of the system.
United Press reports Texas warms after the first frost of the season. Dallas says minimum temps tonight near 40 degrees in the north and 55 degrees in the south. Last night’s readings ranged from 32 at Amarillo to 44 in Galveston and Brownsville.
The Weather Bureau ordered advisory warnings along the coast from Hatteras to Jacksonville as a disturbance of considerable intensity moved northeast over Virginia. The system remains under observation by forecasters.
Captain Giles postpones takeoff until late as fog covers the flying field. He says he will depart today once conditions improve, with the plane fueled and ready to start for the Pacific flight.
Washington November 17 Chairman Reed warned that a constitutional amendment may be necessary if the federal government takes charge of Mississippi flood control work. Antlers report Major Victor M. Locke, 51, prominent state politician and former Choctaw leader, found guilty of manslaughter in the killing of Abner Battiste, 27. Jury recommends a 10-year prison term.
Tiger Flowers, former middleweight boxing champion, died in New York after surgery to remove a growth above his right eye. Funeral services will be held locally before the body is shipped to Atlanta, Georgia for burial.
East Texas sees tonight partly cloudy and warmer. Friday brings cloudy warmth in the southeast. West Texas reports tonight and Friday generally fair and warmer in the south, with the Panhandle turning somewhat colder Friday.
Casablanca Morocco November 17 four French women and two French men held for weeks by Moorish tribesmen who are hostile and seeking ransom are en route to French lines. They are expected to arrive tonight.
Paris dispatch reports Sultan Mouley Yussef of Morrocco died today from uremic poisoning after a year of illness. He was 45 and had ruled since 1912.
