Over 1,300 heavy bombers pounded Metz while Germans offered limited resistance amid flooded rivers and light snow. French villages Morville Les Vic, Or icourt near Chateau Salins, and other targets fell as Third Army pressed toward the Saar.
A formation of American Mustang fighters bombed a German railroad station near Saarbrucken by dropping pure gasoline tanks on the roof and triggering a blaze with incendiary bullets. Captain Gerald Montgomery of Littlefield, Texas, said the fire looked beautiful as the building collapsed after they departed.
The War Department authorized the construction of extra facilities at Randolph Field in San Antonio Texas at a cost of 2 014 172 dollars.

Fort Worth stockyards note cattle 1800 calves 1200 fairly active mostly steady. Beef steers and yearlings in meager supply with good fat cows scarce. Calves 1150 to 1225, stocker calves and yearlings 11 to 25, hogs 500 active steady. top 1455 good and choice 180 to 270 lb. Heavier butchers and most sows 1380, good 175 lb weights 1435 and good 155 lb weights 1375, stocker pigs 1250.
Lightning struck the barn at the Jeff Davis residence on West Main Street Tuesday night killing a Jersey cow. The bolt also shattered a light bulb above the baby’s bed in the house.

De Gaulle is said to seek equal participation on the European advisory commission, large arms deliveries, and a French military occupation zone in Germany.
Pvt. Bert G. Webster receives the Combat Infantryman Badge for satisfactory performance in action against the enemy in Italy with the 363rd Infantry. In a hospital letter home he says he is getting along OK and hopes to return to active duty soon, noting he has been in Italy since July 17.

Russian forces push toward Budapest across the Tisza River establishing a 45 mile west bank bridgehead threatening to split German and Hungarian armies defending the capital and eastern Slovakia. Malinovsky’s troops advance up to 15 miles from the river, seize over 50 towns, and drive toward Mezocsal with aim to cut the Miske Budapest rail line.
Paris November 10 troops and armor of the American Third Army pierced a 20 mile segment of German lines below Metz after taking the towns of Loucigny and Chateau Salins. North of there they repelled two Nazi counter-attacks and moved within 15 miles of the Maginot line revealed guns.

Gov. Thomas E. Dewey announced that he and his family would leave Albany tomorrow for a two or three week vacation on Sea Island, Georgia.
Allied Headquarters in the Philippines reports the 24th Division advancing along the Ormoc highway on Leyte as Japanese reinforcements of about 35,000 troops rush in from Mindanao and other islands. Ormoc port is heavily bombed and at risk, while Maj. Gen. Frederick A. Irving commands ground east of the highway with artillery supporting troops in a stubborn fight.
Police halted a city square auction of government owned automobile tires stolen in Tulsa. One man was arrested and another escaped on foot as the thieves displayed tires from a truck and sold several before police interference.
United Press reports Tokyo radio disclosed women have formed bamboo spear units as part of Japan’s national defense corps. The corps, inaugurated on Sept 11, is part of a total mobilization plan for 100,000,000 Japanese citizens. The broadcast was recorded by the FCC.
Clyde Humphrey of Paris invites Bonham veterans of the 359th in World War I to a Sunday reunion in Paris. A noon feed will be held at the Gibraltar Hotel. He urges all Bonham members to attend.
Pfc. John D. Reece son of Mr and Mrs J Reece was wounded in action in France on Sept 23 according to a war department announcement. Reece was wounded in the back by shrapnel during the invasion of southern France.

In Chungking the Chinese high command charged that Japan used pole ion gas in a new all-out push to seize encircled Kweilin. They reported Japanese columns converging on Liuchow, with Liuchow 15 to 20 miles away, threatening the last American airbases in Kwangsi. Japanese raids also claimed to have hit ammunition dumps near Kweilin.
