PFC Clarence Edgar Peterson Jr son of Mr and Mrs C E Peterson Sr of Duplex was killed in action in France on July 7 this year He was born September 18 1915 in Duplex and entered service March 1942 training at Camp Wolters Camp Barkley Death Valley California and Fort Dix New Jersey He served with the 90th Division His wife Mary Olive Peterson Route 1 Ivanhoe and a son William Michael survive with a daughter Alma Gene from a former marriage in Bonham The Purple Heart and its certificate were sent to his parents
Staff Sergeant Edwin H. Merritt of Randolph Texas was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in the Italian campaign. General Thoburn K. Brown presented the honor in Rome at a Retreat Ceremony in Piazza Venezia. Merritt, a Rome Area Allied Command hotel manager, previously served as a forward artillery observer with the 36th Texas Division and earned the Good Conduct Medal and a Battle Participation Star.
H. McCullough of Tes member of a sub unit under Troy W Crawford of El Texas served with Air Service mechanics in the Lib unit. The group flew multiple missions over occupied Europe delivering bombs and maintaining aircraft. McCullough, a 1942 service entrant and Gober High School graduate, helped the unit’s noted safety record and combat efficiency.

S/Sgt. Thomas F.E. Sanderson son of Mr and Mrs Elmer Sanderson Whitewright Texas returns home after four months in Nazi occupied Belgium Two weeks as a German prisoner He piloted a B 24 in the 8th AF based in England escaped after a crash landing and helped by Belgian underground He will report to Miami for reassignment and testifies to German atrocities.
Three infantry regiments of the 26th Division the 141st the 142nd and the 143rd were awarded a unit citation by Maj. Gen. John E B Dahlquist for May 26 to June 26 1944 in Italy. The citation notes a 29 day push from Anzio through Rome to the hills overlooking Pisa and praises their outstanding results. The 41st captured Velletri the 142nd attacked Mount Artemisi and the 43rd fought from Anzio through Velletri.

Soviet drive toward Budapest nears fall as Danube flotilla heads to the city. Rain slows Italian front and Allied casualties total 116,150 since May 11. Pvt. James E. Burns of the Edehuhe community has been slightly wounded in Holland after four months overseas. His brother Pvt. J. C. Burns is injured at Port Riley, Kansas. Father and mother Burns also hear from Richard C. Burns in the South Pacific.
Fort Worth stockyards report for November 4 shows cattle and calves steady to strong from last week with top beef steers and yearlings at 15. Cows bring 1025 to 1275, fat calves 1275, stocker calves 150 to 175, hogs steady with top 14.55, good stocker weight 151 pounds, light sows 1350 to 1380. Butchers steady on most weights. lightweights 10 to 25 lower.
Edd McDonald son of Mr and Mrs J E McDonald Ravenna Rt 1 was slightly wounded in action in Holland on Oct 22 according to a War Department message received by his mother Pie McDonald He entered service Dec 13 1942 and has served eight months overseas with an infantry unit.
