South Vietnamese troops recaptured Que Son on the central coast leaving Communist forces with only Ba To district town still in rebel hands. In An Loc region, fighting with a North Vietnamese regiment lasted 18 hours with heavy casualties, while aircraft bombed targets across North Vietnam below the 20th parallel.
Thomas Hayden and four activists arrived at Wattay Airport Laos en route to Hanoi to seek a clearer peace prospects in Indochina. They plan to board a Russian Aeroflot flight for Hanoi Saturday and stay about a week.
About 900 American Indians ended a 24 hour occupation of the Bureau of Indian Affairs after White House aide Bradford Patterson pledged a written response to protest demands. The group agreed to move to an auditorium after avoiding a threatened police confrontation. Russell Means and tribal representatives led the action amid claims of a trail of broken treaties.
