CAP Squadron Begins Study of Navigation in Bonham

The Bonham Civil Air Patrol squadron starts ground school and a navigation course taught by Bill Stanford, a former Jones Field instructor. Meetings are Mondays at 7 30 p m for two hours, with 20 minutes of drill and classroom work. Texas to Begin Year With Cash Surplus

Texas to start the new year with a sizable cash surplus as State Auditor C I Cavness reports 3 441 207 in cash on hand when the legislature convenes. The forecast for the fiscal year beginning Sept 1 1945 shows revenues near 75 million with a dip to 70 5 million in 1946 and 1947 amid wartime effects and oil tax gains. Governor Coke R Stevenson will use Cavness figures to draft a two year budget for the legislature.

Del Curto Named Head of Food Procurement

U S Pacific Fleet reports Third and Seventh Fleet air crews destroyed 2 594 enemy aircraft in air and ground over two months with 252 enemy planes damaged or destroyed and roughly 200 American carrier planes lost though with lighter crew losses due to rescues. The report credits Admiral Nimitz and pilots under Halsey and King in grinding efforts around the Philippines and Leyte with high enemy losses and notes unofficial totals for Japanese vessels and ships sunk.

Bailey Seaman Dies in Action October 3

Alec Boyd Bicknell, 25, US Navy Seaman Second Class, son of Stoke and Mrs. Bicknell of Hunnivale Col, former Bailey residents, was killed in action on October 3. He entered navy December 1942, trained at San Diego, and is survived by parents two sisters a brother and a half brother.
