Thundershowers Forecast in North Central Texas Area

The Bonham area can expect scattered thundershowers and higher temperatures through Tuesday with a sharp rise from Sunday readings in the mid-50s to mid-80s and about a 10 degree increase Tuesday. US Denies Sell Out Berlin at Geneva Parley

At Geneva the United States formally denied any willingness to sell out Berlin in a separate deal. Andrew H Berding stated for the United States Britain France and West Germany that Berlin cannot be settled in isolation. The disclosure suggested a developing Allied split as France and West Germany balked while Britain followed.

AUSTIN UPI Lone Star Gas Company seeks a 10 cent increase in intra company gas rates before the Railroad Commission. The proposal would raise the rate from 30 to 40 cents per 1000 cubic feet between gate points, with no immediate consumer price rise but possible later city rate requests. Lone Star argues higher rates are needed to buy additional gas supplies at competitive prices.

Theatre Burglars Hit American Theatre and Local School

City and county officers probed weekend burglaries targeting the American theatre in Borham and the Leonard school. Cash, a record player, and a small electric motor with grinder were stolen at the theatre, while about $1 was taken from Leonard school. Entry at the theatre appeared non forcible with doors left open. Leonard entry gained via a window. Additional break ins reported in Dodd City Windom North Fannin and Trenton.

Bonham Man Shot Through Door In Critical Condition

Bonham police identify Clyde Duff as the shooting victim struck in the face by a shotgun blast fired through a door by Mrs Shereran Whisenhunt. Duff was critically injured and transported to a Bonham hospital. the incident occurred Sunday night at 1201 South 4th Street. County Attorney Tibby Wright said Whisenhunt reported she fired after hearing a noise and seeing the door begin to open. The investigation continued Monday with county and city officials involved.

Gates named deputy defense secretary to succeed Quarles

President Eisenhower selects Navy Secretary Thomas S. Gates Jr. to become deputy defense secretary after Donald A. Quarles’ death. Gates will resign as Navy secretary May 30 to return to banking, then will be nominated by the Senate. Gates, 53, from Germantown, Pa, has served in defense roles since 1953 and was a Drexel and Co. partner.

Lynch Probe Ends in Stroke After FBI Questioning

In Poplarville Mississippi farmer Arthur Smith about 32 lay in serious condition after a cerebral hemorrhage following intensive FBI questioning in the Parker Zynch case. Smith, who was interrogated about the kidnapping and murder of a 2 year old Negro, suffered a stroke during the inquiry and his doctors say high blood pressure and stress may have caused it. Authorities say seven Mississippians may be arrested soon as the investigation continues.
