Music pupils of Pauline Foster held a piano recital last night at her residence on West Street. Guests enjoyed the program with pieces by Hemming von Koss, Offenbach, MacDowell, Friml, Wachs, and others. The list included several solos, dances, and a final humorous quip about domestic duties.

United Press report from Pittsburg dated May 18 details a devastating TNT blast at the Aetna Chemical Company plant in Oakdale near Pittsburgh. More than 170 workers were killed and over 400 injured as a second explosion followed the initial blast. Rescue teams and Red Cross units mobilized quickly, with physicians and nurses arriving from nearby areas.

Last night Philip Wire was called to Hudsonville to furnish a burial outfit for Woo. Caruth, who died there yesterday afternoon, was fifty four years old and had lived in that community for a number of years. A tent about 14 or 16 feet square in good condition is wanted. Phone 219.

Washington reports two German planes were shot down within a minute during a patrol without direct combat in the taking air phase awaiting a French general with decorations for American flyers. The first went down in flames and the second crumpled as it fell.
