Dr. Tait Butler, editor of a Memphis farm magazine, said cotton growers from thirteen Southern states plan a January 18 meeting in Memphis to form an all cotton states council to promote interest in national and state affairs. The report notes a Japan peace stance, though phrasing is unclear.
Mrs. Claude McClure shows marked improvement and nears recovery, a welcome message for county friends. Leonard Route 2 residents L C Branch and EB Mulikan visited Bonham. Branch subscribed to the Bonham News and once lived near Ravenna. Mrs. W F Keeton returns from Los Angeles where her daughter Mrs Ralph Webb, previously ill, now improves. Roy M Owens, cashier of the First State Bank at Randolph, reports the bank’s strong year performance and dividend, noting Batley’s First National also paid a dividend.
Tickets remain unsold for the banquet this evening at the First Baptist church. About 150 guests are expected as plates are being prepared and a fine program is planned.

Whitesboro announces the opening of its new school auditorium and gym with 1200-seat capacity on January 17 and 18. The Rotary Club will present a three act musical comedy Sky High directed by Miss Mitch Humble of Kansas City. Scenery arch curtains and collapsible steel-base chairs are ready for the opening. The rock building with hardwood floors was funded by a PWA grant.
Denton announces the ninth annual Kiwanis minstrel, a home talent show staged by the Denton Kiwanis club to raise funds for underprivileged children. The event typically draws large crowds and hundreds of attendees.
Mrs. E. A Teague widow of Frank Teague died at 4 yesterday at her South Fourth Street home from angina pectoris. Funeral service was at Clark Memorial Methodist at 4. Interment in Willow Wild Cemetery beside her parents. Survived by two daughters Mrs. Tom Graves Mulberry and Mrs. Chas Massey Randolph, son Charley Williams Randolph, brother Doc Newton Denver, and ten other children. She spent most of her 79 years in Bonham. a longtime county resident.
Obituary note recalls William S and Bogg once from Passadena Cal and Benham Kentucky. He lived on a farm south of town and left the area many years ago. Most of his immediate family are deceased with two nieces, Mrs. Louie Morris and Miss Katherine Phillips, remaining in the community.
Baylor University sophomores reported their president Don Whittenberg of Berger was abducted by five freshmen in the afternoon. The car used in the capture, last seen on the Houston highway, was to be found and a radio description of the kidnappers, suspects, and auto broadcast. Whittenberg and two other sophomores Miss Gwen McPherson and H. Scott were taken. McPherson and Scott were released several miles from Waco. The act marks a rare student kidnapping since the policy change three years ago.
Austin news reports plants in all cities except Dallas Houston San Antonio Waco Paris Tyler and Am ie will close this week as the Texas Relief Commission says the plants will process 10 600 cattle supplied by the Federal Surplus Relief Corporation. Texas plants have processed 37 000 head of cattle and employed 20 000 to 30 000 workers. Government cattle purchases in Texas total 20 500 000 for 2 000 000 head not counting 700 000 sheep and 400 000 goats. Equipment will be kept at the plant until the Federal Government ends cattle purchases.

Farris Pirtle readings cover The Place of the Church College in the Education of Young People by Jno R Surves Specha Musik and Christian Education as vital to young men. Rev C L Bowen delivers a talk before closing hymn and benediction.
The Stephenson Parent-Teacher Association reports rising meeting interest with new members and visitors. December brought a large turnout for student Christmas songs and readings. January’s program will include Rev. J Fender and Miss Culpepper. The group funded library books and shelf installation at a cost of about fifty dollars, notes a bright room with plants. Officers include President Bernard Boyd and several vice presidents, with meetings on the third Thursday at 3 p.m. The article honors missing member Mrs. E F McDarwell and praises custodian Mrs. Lucy White for maintaining the building.
